For CFOs and finance leaders

Prepare financial analyses that your team can verify.

Use ThinkStack to extract data from financial documents, run calculations, and prepare draft reports. Review the data and code behind each figure, then assess the full cost of producing the report.

The work to improve

Spend less time preparing material for financial review.

Finance teams check invoices, reconcile reporting tables, and investigate variances. ThinkStack can prepare records and analyses so your team can review the calculations, resolve questions, and decide what belongs in the final report.

Where to start

Start with a recurring finance task

Use records your team can access and definitions agreed on by your analysts. Confirm permissions and allowed actions before connecting financial systems.

01Financial document preparationExtract required fields and flag records that need attention.
Start with
Invoices, reference records, and finance-approved validation rules.
Agent preparation
Read the documents, extract fields, check them against the configured validation rules, and hold invalid or uncertain values for review.
What your team receives
Structured records with links to their source documents and a list of unresolved items.
Human review and approval
Finance checks values held for review and approves the transfer of records to the agreed downstream process. The designated owners retain authority over payments and accounting decisions.
What to measure
Preparation and review time, corrections, and the number of accepted records.
02Variance and spend analysisReview the calculations used to compare reporting periods.
Start with
Approved financial tables, comparison periods, and definitions for the measures being analyzed.
Agent preparation
Write and execute SQL or Python, compare reporting periods, and produce charts and data tables. Show the code used to calculate each figure.
What your team receives
An analysis with calculations that the analyst can inspect and reproduce.
Human review and approval
The analyst checks data joins, reporting periods, classifications, missing data, and the interpretation of the results.
What to measure
Analysis and review time, corrected calculations, and time to an approved analysis.
03Management reporting preparationUse reviewed analysis to prepare draft report wording.
Start with
Reviewed tables, report templates, and approved reference material.
Agent preparation
Prepare commentary and proposed edits with the relevant supporting sources. Leave unsupported explanations for the owner to resolve.
What your team receives
A draft report with tracked changes, source references, and unresolved questions.
Human review and approval
The finance owner checks statements, accepts or rejects edits, and authorizes the final report.
What to measure
Preparation time, review rounds, and substantive corrections.

Review example

Review a variance calculation and its supporting data

Your analyst can check the arithmetic and reporting assumptions before approving the explanation.

Prior-period spend
£124,800
Current-period spend
£128,400
Calculated change
£3,600 / 2.9% (rounded)
Supporting data and code
The query, reporting periods, data table, and chart
Question for the analyst
Are the categories and reporting scope consistent across both periods?
Fictional figures for a reporting example. They are not ThinkStack customer results or a savings estimate.

The finance owner verifies the calculation and the explanation for the change.

Pilot measurement

Measure the full cost of producing an accepted result.

Include implementation, licensing, usage, support, and the work your team still needs to do. Distinguish staff time freed up from cash savings realized.

Staff time freed up
Baseline staff hours minus the time still spent on preparation, review, correction, and administration.
Operating costs
Licensing, model usage, infrastructure, and ongoing support.
Implementation
Integration, configuration, testing, and staff time.
Cost per accepted result
Total agreed workflow costs divided by the number of accepted results in the same period.

Common questions

Before you plan the workflow

Can ThinkStack connect to our ERP?

Confirm the system and version, authentication requirements, available APIs or MCP tools, and permitted read or write actions. Connector availability and supported actions need to be checked for each finance system.

Can we reproduce an analysis?

The Data Analysis Playground executes SQL and Python and shows the calculation code. Finance can inspect and rerun the analysis, checking source versions and definitions when comparing reporting periods.

Does usage cost tracking provide a complete ROI calculation?

Usage records show agent and model costs. A complete ROI calculation also needs implementation, licensing, support, human review, and verified business outcomes. Agree on those inputs before the pilot.

Does this authorize payments or accounting entries?

These workflows prepare records, analyses, and draft reports. Finance owners retain approval authority. Any transaction or update in an external system requires agreed permissions, an integration, and appropriate controls.
